Blog #15

Statement of purpose:  In this project, I hope to be able to find out how students interpret and perceive the professors comments on their written assignments.

Detailed statement of your research questions:  This research project will focus primarily on gaining a better understanding of how college students react, interpret and adapt to their professors' feedback and comments on their written assignments, as well as gain a sense of what students want from their professors in terms of comments and feedback.  There will be at least two individuals participating in this study who will be asked to provide their interpretation of any comments and feedback from their professors on written assignments of their choosing.  The subjects will then be asked whether or not they found what they wanted in the comments and feedback, if they found it useful, and if and how they applied anything from the comments and feedback into later writings.

List of information needed:
There will be need to be research done on how each student processes the comments and feedback on their assignments differently, delving into how they apply the information from those comments to future assignments.
A look into how each student initially perceives the professors comments and feedback on their assignments.

Sources used for this project:
Responding to Student Writers handbook by Nancy Sommers

Plan of gathering information:
  • I will be conducting this research on students of Kean University, from freshman year students older than 18 to senior year students.
  • Interviews will be held at Kean University during each students free time.
  • At least two students will be interviewed; at least one of them will be a senior year student.
  • Interviews will be used to find out how each individual student interprets the feedback given to them by their professors, and how they use the given feedback(if at all).
